“La Chiqui” was the darling of a middle-class family. By the age of 12, she was already using marijuana, and by 14, she left home supposedly in search of a better future, but it didn’t work out: by 20, she was working in a drug den, had become a dealer, thief, and homeless. She stole from stores and scammed many people. This led her to prison, where she was sentenced to 14 years of confinement in a facility where the basic living and health conditions are far from ideal. She has had to fight and learn to live with it.
