This article argues that durable peace in Colombia—and in other conflict-affected countries—requires more attention to small-scale, everyday practices at the hyperlocal level. Despite the ambitious 2016 peace agreement between the government and FARC, violence has resurged and state support has faltered. Yet communities continue to build peace through local efforts like rebuilding markets, managing waste, or restoring natural resources. These actions, while often overlooked, are critical to preventing a return to violence. The authors call for a shift in both domestic and international policy: from top-down frameworks to bottom-up support for community-led peacebuilding.
